We hired a car and left Verona to visit Lake Garda and explore the countryside of Treviso, known as the garden of Venice. Our visit to the Lakes was just an afternoon of sitting in the sun and reading a book on the edge of the Lake. It was very beautiful though full of modern day hotels lining the road which stretched around the lakeside. After seeing such delightful, ancient architecture in Verona it did make me feel the Lake wasn’t a place of magnitude beauty in comparison.
Leaving Lake Garda for our converted farm house in San vito which I must say is the most loveliest B&B I have had the pleasure of staying http://www.booking.com/hotel/it/borgo-d-asolo.en.html . This was a perfect base to explore Asolo "The City of a Hundred Horizons". Such a dainty little town in the hills with beautiful architecture and a relaxed atmosphere it was lovely place to wander the streets.
An Italian friend of a friend recommended we visit Valdobbiadene, the home of Prosecco wine as I had mentioned how charming rolling hills of vineyards are. We drove to Valdobbiadene but instead of stopping we continued up the hill surrounding the town. Each viewpoint on the way was full of hundreds of purple/ blue and brown butterflies, I’ve never seen so many it was enchanting. We continued to climb the hill then once we had reached the peak it was the most magnificent view. The distance was incredible with snow top mountains in the far. The Treviso landscape is rather flat with enormous mountains rising.
